Watch Susan Polk, owner of Be Happy Yoga & Salt Cave, on WBKO Midday Live on Monday, August 5th and SOKY Sunrise on WNKY on Wednesday, August 14th for a discussion about Global Yoga Therapy Day. Come in to the studio between 1 – 3 pm on August 14th for an open house about our offerings in Yoga Therapy.
After years of back pain and life’s stresses in her 20’s and 30’s, Susan Polk found yoga at age 37 and it changed her life. She felt a strong sense of peace after starting yoga as well as no more back pain! She has always taught yoga from a more therapeutic angle which is reflected in her teaching style.
Susan loves working privately with clients to help them achieve their best form of self-care to reduce the aches and pains both physically and emotionally in life. In the group setting, Susan takes care to accommodate the individual needs of the students in a group class allowing for modifications and emphasizing that “we’re not ‘good’ at yoga, yoga is good to us”. Each class whether individual or group, concludes with a 15 minute guided deep relaxation which she feels is imperative in order to calm the central nervous system and allow for self-healing to occur. Susan is empathetic to all and is genuinely concerned about her clients and students and excited to watch them grow in their practices. Her studio, Be Happy Yoga & Salt Cave has been recognized as one of the top ten studios in Kentucky and voted locally as a Favorite Yoga studio in her town of Bowling Green, KY. She started a 200 hour Yoga Alliance RYS program in 2014 and has taken great pride in nurturing those teacher relationships through the years. Unique features of the teacher training program include a yoga weekend at the Integral ashram, Yogaville, in Buckingham, Virginia.
Susan first completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training program in Charleston, South Carolina at Holy Cow Yoga Center in 2004. This program had a lineage of Integral Yoga. After teaching many years, she then completed her 300 hour program in 2013 and then continued on for another 650 hour yoga therapy program, completing that in 2015 – both at Etowah Valley Yoga in Cartersville, Georgia, north of Atlanta which had an Iyengar based lineage. She also has earned a 100 hour Prenatal Yoga Certification (RPYT) and an 85 hour Thai Yoga Therapy certification. Susan was grandfathered in to the C-IAYT certification in June of 2017.
