Kendra Boone is a highly trained complementary health care practitioner with 24 years of clinical experience. Many of her private clients have been referred from mental health organisations, at a time when their care plan required a mind–body approach to their wellbeing and healing journey. Kendra is a health fund registered practitioner.
I believe your mind and body are amazing tools to experience the world, and in fine-tuning these tools and uniting with spirit, you have the potential to find deep inner peace and new levels of well being.
I think the magic ingredient in healing is stillness and developing a mindful presence that helps you see things as they are. My relationship with you is one that encourages insights about yourself, others and the world. This requires;
regular communication and meditation practice,
embracing your individual uniqueness,
reversing habitual stress patterns,
learning different ways to move and breathe,
regaining healthy biorhythms and
developing effective home practices including meditation and yoga.
I envision a Health Care system where vitally important traditional medicines like Yoga Therapy and Clinical Reflexology are integrated and respected as preventative medicine, bringing self-empowerment and healing to a financially overburdened health care system.
Being fascinated by human movement, in 1986 I graduated in Exercise Science and worked as an Exercise Specialist in Corporate Health Programs.
I began teaching Yoga in 1998 and undertook Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training (300 hour), the Yoga of awareness, taught by a mentor, Gail Pisani, from the Saraswati tradition. During the course, I was mentored by Turiya Yoga teacher Megan Jones, who continues to be a source of inspiration to me. I joined the professional Yoga community, and continue my interest in evidence-based Yogic studies provided at Satyananda Yoga Ashram (Clinical Yoga for Anxiety and Depression, The Neuroscience of Yoga, The effects of Yoga on sleep cycles anxiety and depression). In 2015 I became a Trauma Aware Yoga teacher and a member of Trauma Sensitive Yoga australia.
I commenced my Yoga Therapy studies with Michael de Manincor in 2016 including a unit on Ayurvedic Medicine with Eleni Tsikrikas (73 hour).
In 2017 I completed a 750 hr postgraduate certificate in Mindful Yoga Therapy with Sal Flynn, Louise Godfrey, Annette Louden in the Krishnamacharya tradition and have become the first registered Yoga Therapist in Canberra. I am currently developing yoga for mental health programs and operate a clinical practice from Hyson Green Mental Health Unit at, Calvary Private Hospital.
As a hands on therapist, I have trained with Donna Farhi in Mastering the Art of Adjusting(11 hours).
With a continued interest in Yoga in healthcare, recent postgraduate studies have been with Dr Timothy McCall learning the Yoga as Medicine assessment model (30 hour), and Trauma Sensitive advanced Yoga training including Yoga for Trauma Anxiety Depression and Body Image with Social Worker/Counsellor Sarah Ball (50 hour).
